Tasks
Tasks is your personal to-do list. Only you can see it. Work you share with your team lives in Projects, and anything in Tasks can move there when it becomes team work.
Plan your day#
- Inbox catches what you add before you decide when to do it.
- Today shows what you planned for today, plus anything due today or overdue. This evening keeps later things apart.
- Upcoming lays out the next days and months; Someday holds ideas for later.
- Completed keeps what you finished, and Recently deleted brings back anything you removed.
Add tasks fast#
Type in plain words, such as Call Dana 3pm tomorrow #Outreach @calls !high:
- a day plans the task (tomorrow, next Friday); due Friday sets a deadline;
- a time adds a reminder; every Monday or every year repeats it;
- #Outreach puts it in that list, or offers to make the list; @calls adds a label; !high sets the priority.
Paste several lines to add several tasks at once. ⌥⌘T adds a task from anywhere in River.
Keep track of the details#
- Lists with headings, in groups such as Work and Home. Show a list as a board of To do, Doing and Done.
- Due dates with times, up to five reminders (on the day, a day before or a week before, or any time you pick), and repeats on a schedule or after you finish.
- Checklists, notes with links to your River documents and files, labels and priority.
- Select several tasks to plan, move or change them together. Undo reverses any change.
Work with your team#
Tasks stays private. To work on something with others, move it to Projects:
- Move to a project… on a task makes it a task of a team project (Undo puts it back).
- Move to Projects… on a list makes the whole list a project: its headings become milestones, and its labels, checklists and notes come along.
Reminders, repeats and planned days stay with you.
Ask River#
- "Remind me every Monday at 9am to review my outreach pipeline."
- "Set up a hiring plan for our founding engineer with due dates over the next three weeks."
- "What's on my plate today?" River reads Today, Upcoming and your calendar and suggests an order.
- Ask River to do this… on a task: River works on it in the background and reports on the task. You get a notification when it needs you or finishes.
Take it with you#
From a list's menu (or Today's): print it, download it as a spreadsheet, copy it as a checklist, or add its due dates to your calendar, with times, repeats and reminders.
